Recently, OMI Industries’ managing director Philip M. Coffey, was featured in Crain’s Chicago Business for his visionary thinking, and for putting Fresh Wave IAQ products on the map as the go-to solution for even the harshest of odor problems.

In the early ‘90s, Coffey saw the immediate potential of the company’s existing odor management product, Ecosorb. The gel, made with ingredients such as extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove and cedarwood, was not only super efficient in dealing with smells, but most notably was all natural, something that the vast majority of the competition most certainly was not. On the contrary, most air freshening products contain harsh chemicals that have been linked to respiratory distress, cancers, and even developmental disorders.

Coffey got to work developing new ways to use and market the product. Commercial sales became a big segment of Fresh Wave’s market, including such companies as Hertz Corp, which uses Fresh Wave IAQ products in all of its rental cars.

Today, the Fresh Wave consumer line is available in a huge range of products, including additives for carpet and laundry odors, candles and dog shampoo, and is sold at major chains around the country including Whole Foods Market Inc., Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. and Ace Hardware Corp.

It’s a smelly world out there; Mr. Coffey and our team intend to help fix that.
